It is trivially obvious that the Trump regime does not plan to leave power ever again and is making preparations to interfere with legislative elections later this year to that end.

And many of the responses to this obvious fact have been frustratingly pollyanish. Elections are run by states, you see, so the federal government has no statutory role over them. Trump can’t cancel elections, that would be against the law. There are too many polling stations for ICE to interfere with them all. Repression on Election Day will just galvanize voter turnout against them. And on and on and on.

And I am begging people to actually take this threat seriously, because however true these statements are, *they are insufficient for managing an unprecedented fascist threat that the US political system has been so far unable to contain.*

I just don't see the comparison between the Nazi regime and the MAGA regime, except for the obvious fact that the MAGA regime is *trying* to "do Naziism" by directly copying Nazi tactics, poorly and in a context in which they are not effective, and at an unworkable speed.

Hitler and his lieutenants were as competent as modern Dems - so, incompetent, but not MAGA-level

I still think MAGA will cause a great deal of damage and won't be "easy" to dislodge. But they're not durable

Many many many people did.

A lot of the same dismissive words used to describe Hitler are the same as the ones used to dismiss Trump in 2016. "Silly" "ridiculous" "no one could take him seriously!"

We're already in the 14 years where neighbors disappeared, mass deportation attempts were made, and people died in concentration camps from disease. Like, we're already there.

The current fascists are not copying Nazi Germany as much as continuing the practices of our government/corporate elite that the Nazis copied.

The ideology is intrinsically entwined with each iteration building off the previous.

Nazis literally used the way the United States has treated Indigenous peoples and did the same to Jewish people. Now it's boomeranged back home.
