I’m having a tough time stomaching news organizations presenting their complaints about Musk as a matter of morality or ethics. If it were, they’d be off that platform so fast it would make your head spin. Instead, they are enabling Musk by giving him free publicity on their own sites (covering his antics), creating “drama” by begging him to do this or that, and desperately hoping they won’t have to think creatively about how to replace whatever revenue they would lose by dropping twitter ASAP.
Musk unsuspends some reporters on Twitter. Outrage was quick and furious, but without exception, these media organizations kept using Twitter to promote their latest stories. Their official accounts tweeted at their usual busy paces Thursday night and into Friday night, when Musk allowed some of the suspended journalists to return.
Some of the media organizations have opened Mastodon and Post accounts, but the codependent relationship between the news media and Twitter is still strong.
On getting journalists to move to Mastodon
Constructive things to say to journalists: join Mastodon, encourage your audience to have their conversations here, report on Mastodon, add Mastodon to your news org bio, make a video explaining how to use Mastodon, ask lawmakers if they will be joining Mastodon
Not helpful: You are a fascist just like Elon Musk for not immediately deleting your Twitter and giving up the audience you spent 15 years building. It’s all or nothing, right now.
Is it possible to get info on whether people have interacted with my boosts on #mastodon? The notifications about my original posts give me some feedback about whether the people that I connected with on here find my posts interesting, which I think is essential in building communities. Without getting similar info on boosts, it feels like I'm at a party where I can talk to people but whenever I try to retell a joke I can't hear if it made the people around me laugh or not
I don't know whether Kori Michele has migrated to the Fediverse yet, so I'm sharing an epic post of theirs

@dcjohnson nothing quite says “privileged exceptionalism” like Libertarianism.
On to the chapter about the Year of Terror (Baigais Gads), 1941. Interestingly enough, this time period is like a huge hole in my family’s history. I don’t know anything about how this year went for my grandparents. Everything I know is from the German occupation onwards. Thus, this is probably going to have to be one of the parts of the story that I have to make up. 😬 No pressure or anything.
A few words on alternative platforms you might be considering:
- Tumblr: still exists, now run by Automattic, the WordPress crew -- decent folks. Not my kind of thing but seems to have found its niche, might even interoperate with Mastodon some day.
- Cohost: good vibe, good people, feels small-scale Tumblr-ish. Run by a "not-for-profit software company".
- Post.news: funded by early Twitter investor Andreessen Horowitz. Nonsense micropayment scheme. Avoid.
- Hive: security nightmare. Avoid.

Bear in mind that, while I may "like" your "toot", about a person, event or particular topic, if it links to the "bird-site" I will no longer boost and inadvertently contribute to their grift. Everyone has a choice and a part to play when crimes go unpunished.
