@deprecated And by socialism they will perish - adapted from Alexander Nevsky

@massiveracist There’s quite a few vim plug-ins that replicate IDE features, such as syntax checking, ale is an example, although I don’t endorse it; haven’t tried it.

@massiveracist Would a static type checker help to find compilation errors as you type code? My IDE solved that for me, but it really depends on what project you’re working

@RikaDerufu grab a book comrade! Go for a run. Don't give up the fight, the struggle.

@deprecated Feel the same. Grew up in the country and I found it boring. Been in the city for 6 years and I feel like I already had it. Apart from job and friends, there's nothing that attracts me here. Houses are overpriced (I'd have to work my entire life just to get to own a property in a drug-infested neighbourhood), traffic is shit, neighbours are loud and drunk all the time.

When I was younger, I thought that the defining distinction between and was **solidarity** — as in, the former necessarily _has_ to have way more of it than the latter.

Gradually I came to realise that characterisation is problematic for three reasons:

1. want to _impose_ , which is an oxymoron (by definition, you can't mandate voluntary inclinations, such as affection or desire, on people).
1. In practice, and at least in my own country (), the Left has become pro-independence and sympathetic towards secessionists (but more solidarity would require larger unions, stronger federations — not the richest regions going their own way).
1. Sometimes the Right puts in practice _more_ solidarity towards certain groups or causes (eg, non-elites, non-conformists, disadvantaged people who reject the orthodoxy) than the Left itself.

I now think that the **ratio _personal freedom_ vs _economic freedom_** better categorises Left vs. Right (cf ). I like to think of those two dimensions as “ to do what you please with your **body**” (food, drugs, euthanasia, suicide, sex, read, speech, thought, association, religion) and “freedom to do what you please with your **property**” (save, invest, buy, sell, donate, build, trade, settle).

This is not a defence of or , by the way — I do believe _certain_ restrictions on both kinds of liberties are necessary for any society to function at all.

@tripu @icedquinn When it comes to libertarians, I'd imagine the restrictions are on the central government's powers towards the citizens, right? They probably like some sort of government with restictions as long as it's local and its policies are relevant to the locals. Anyway,I'd mention I'm not very familiar with it.

@JoshuaACasey I’ve read the thread. Jack speaks big words, but his steak in the company is less than 5%. The thread was literally describing Pied Pipper lulz. Idk man, Twitter’s revenue comes mainly from ads, and without content moderation, third party companies may not want to put their ads there. He sounds like he wants a proprietery version of activity pub, and somehow sell it? Idk, I’m not an oily snake working in business so not sure. Did he set up a company/project for that? I’m curious.

@JoshuaACasey I have a few arguments for that:

1. They won’t because they won’t be able to censor most instances.
2. They won’t because if more people find out about the fediverse alternatives, many of their addicted sheeple might wake up and switch. (no censorship/ads/user tracking)

Are there any plans for ActivityPub support? I’d imagine it could hurt their business
