@logan If you want to know more about AI safety, I'd highly recommend the series Computerphile did on the subject:

There's a bunch more in the series, and also on Rob Miles channel.

If you want to try your hand at application development as a beginner, Flutter might be a reasonable choice. Or, since there's a mountain of tutorials for Python, you could look into QtPy. Either one will let you make something lighter weight than, say, Electron (which basically embeds a copy of the Chromium browser in every app).

GitHub supports RFC 6238 (TOTP) for 2FA, and the KeePassXC browser extension works well with TOTP. Just sayin'.

Here's a fun experiment. Paste this into your browser's developer console:

window.addEventListener('keydown', () => { if (Math.random() < .1) event.preventDefault(); })

This will randomly drop 10% of your key presses.

See how long you can work with this before you lose your mind.

@iankenway
I get where this list is coming from, but these ideas could be clarified/expanded on.

1. The progressive taxation they recommend would need a starting point for the upper bracket(s).
2. UBI requires something like rent restrictions to really work.
3. A market can only be truly free if monopolism and negative externalities are kept in check.
4. "No walled gardens" might not mean the same thing to everyone.
5. Sortition is a good idea, as long as it is only used to select assemblies of voters, not for directly selecting an official. For single-seat elections, I would also recommend that the assemblies use approval voting.

@bchhun@mastodon.social @alcinnz@floss.social .NET is certainly better than Electron, but I'm still looking for an option that binds well to my personal favorite language (Rust)... 😔

Another way of looking at it: Y2K is closer to the last recorded case than to today.

My Mastodon feed has shown me 6 linux based pieces of content in a small window of time. Love this.

Does anyone else find it outrageous that U.N. agencies keep removing RSS feeds for their updates while prominently featuring Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube accounts on their websites? Our taxes fund these entities. We deserve open access to the content they produce.
