I've been so speechless I can't even comment on the Colorado shooting. That could have been my son shot and killed because of hate. We're being terrorized by hate and the grifters profiting off of it financially and politically. It's domestic terrorism and there are no easy answers.

Seems to be several reasons. $80 billion budget. 8%-10% previously devoted to Twitter.

Team monitored performance. Dropped markedly over the fortnight. Engagement much lower.

Brand safety issues with ads next door to antisemitic posts or adult content & nothing done when flagged.

Adverting paused for as long as 6 years suddenly reactivated.

What happens to you Mastodon account if a server closes down?

Sometimes decide to close down. But all of the servers listed at JoinMastodon.org are required to give at least 3 months notice if this happens.

So the server’s members time to transfer their accounts to other servers. The transfer process lets people keep their followers and follows.
