In the Spanish Flu we saw long term neurological consequences

🧠New research using magnetic susceptible MRI showing damage to white matter areas in the prefrontal cortex and brain stem in #LongCovid

Can we stop kidding ourselves that 'calming down' our nervous systems through yoga, CBT etc is going to deal with serious neurological complications

Montoya in #ME has already flagged brainstem/ neurological issues as the root of many symptoms

A THREE YEAR WAIT. What is this 16 year-old meant to do? Put his life on hold for the next three years?!

The NHS crisis is holding back people from getting on with their lives.

The longer the Conservatives are in power, the longer patients will wait.

You have to ask why they would do this, Brexit was the Trojan Horse packed with libertarian disaster capitalists, r/w think tanks, big tech/pharma/oil out to sow disorder & chaos in UK. twitter.com/EuropeanPowell/sta

George Eustice. “I no longer have to put such a positive gloss on what was agreed. The Australia deal is not actually a very good trade deal for the UK. Truth of the matter is the UK gave away far too much for far too little in return".
George Eustice. "We did not actually need to give Australia nor New Zealand full liberalisation of beef and sheep. It was not in our economic interests to do so. And neither Australia nor New Zealand had anything to offer in return for such a grand concession.”

Susanna Reid: Rishi Sunak has told ministers not to appear every day on #GMB

Robert Jenrick: The PM wants ministers to be fully accountable to the media

@Fascinatorfun

My ex neighbour from the UK has, this summer, relocated to Canada to be near two of her four kids that live there. They're all super happy with their lives. My youngest son is now following them from Devon with his three kids. We will miss them terribly, but would never hold them back. We live in France. Our daughter and her two (soon to be 3) kids is here too. My eldest remains in the UK, trapped there by a child from a broken marriage who he loves and won't leave.

The UK is in a downward spiral because of the damage done by the tories in the last 12 years. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that the rot set in with Thatcher. Modern conservatism is a disease that needs to be eradicated along with covid and herpes. I hope I live long enough to see that day.

@ParkinJim I love how Brexit Opportunity 2 (increase vacuum-cleaner wattage) and Brexit Opportunity 9 (reduce red tape on electrical wiring) combine into a self-generating metaphor for what #Brexit has done: mass electrocution.

@chowderman @ParkinJim Here I use a number of metrics. And on each the result is indeed dramatic, as was predicted. The most important point though is that the English state has never produced a proper accounting of the impact of #Brexit. So it's left to Brexit nerds like myself to compile such accounting's of it from multiple reliable sources: medium.com/political-risk/not-

@ChrisMayLA6 many assume the deal done to make Sunak PM was the ERG accepted the loss of JRM from the cabinet in return for Suella Braverman coming back to the Home Office. It binds Sunak to some very right-wing policies that are increasingly becoming unpopular not only because they go against the principles of upholding human rights but because financially they are looking more and more destructively ridiculous by the day.

Jim Parkin boosted

@DFJA01 I agree with the final sentiment, but there's a lot more damage (some irreversible or at leats v.difficult to reverse) before the next election... indeed much of the Truss agenda seemed to be predicated on a whirlwind of Rightwing think tank proposals to overwhelm a reforming government leaving some 'mud stuck to the wall' whatever the next administration intends...

Jim Parkin boosted

@ChrisMayLA6 The problem is, Sunak voted for brexit so he's unlikely to want to admit he's wrong. Just like in the Johnson days, they all feel the have to maintain the pretence so as mot to lose face. It's a total disaster for the country, but I hope also, ultimately, for the Conservative party.

@ParkinJim "Look what we've done to the French!" cheer the Brexiteers.

"Look what Brexiteers done to us," cheer the Irish.

Every week I run into at least one irritating problem cos of Brexit. It's the ultimate meta-troll, which was begotten of trolling by trolls (like Johnson and Gove), and injects multiple irritating emotion-moving annoyances into tens of millions of lives.

@ParkinJim @chowderman

Has anyone solved the mystery of the missing 10th Brexit "opportunity" that mysteriously wasn't on Mogg's list?

How long before the Brexiteers start advising Russia on the "opportunities" self-sanctioning can lead to? #Brexit

Have the Ruschists thought of flying in some Brexiteers? Dover deals with this kind of stuff the whole time. Operation Yellowhammer I think they called it. "How to introduce friction where there was none." Still, plenty of opportunities for graft.

@TCMuffin @MimiJ9 it’ll take longer for the rivers.
So much work was done over the last 30 years, and all wrecked in England in under a year.
Shame on this government.

if there is a silver lining to this pile of elephant shit, it's in the exposure of a Supreme Business Genius as an idiot clown trying to run an imaginary company he invented out of whole cloth and learning the hard way at every turn he has no fucking idea what he's doing

Jim Parkin boosted

Its now clear that the schism between the #business community & the #Tories is centred on #imigration... however, given the increasingly favourable views of migrants seen in polling data, really the only thing stopping a change in tack is #RishiSunakPM looking over his should at the hard right #Brexiters who still have their claws in the Tory party & being unwilling to call them out on their lies about #Brexit & its (supposed) benefits!
