anyway, Caroline's Urbit posts are as eyegougingly awful as her Tumblr - where she combined bizarre race and IQ science with detailed writeups of the possible suffering of fish - and I hope someone else will gather them up.

cos unlike her tumblr, which she deleted, urbit is blockchainish enough that deleting stuff is a bit hard. lol.

There are 500K people in jail today, locked up in pre-trial detention for up to 4 years! They're disproportionately Black, locked up because they can't afford bail.

Certain folks believe Fediverse self-hosting should *never* be recommended to anyone because only eggheads should run social media.

To which I say:

1. The Internet is for everyone
2. If you want the technical acumen to self-host, you can learn it
3. There are risks, but the risks won't kill you
4. Leaving things in the hands of "experts" is unsustainable -- it's why so many laptops are designed to be unrepairable!

An Auschwitz survivor Hédi Fried passed away today at the age of 98.

Hédi was born in a Jewish family in the Romanian town of Sighet. In 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz. She was liberated in Bergen-Belsen. In July 1945 she came to #Sweden with the Swedish Red Cross.

Hédi Fried became an author and psychologist dedicated to spreading the message of the importance of democratic values to combat xenophobia, using her own experiences as a #Holocaust #survivor.

The stumbling block for any Swiss style deal will be freedom of movement which the Swiss had to allow to get the deal they have. Whatever the British or their media might preach about the matter, most of the reason for the vote to leave the EU was based on racism; pure and simple, particularly in the so called 'red wall' constituencies where substantial numbers of voters swung from a lifetime voting for the Labour party to voting for the Conservatives. The working class in the UK are far from being enlightened in any way!

If the reinstatement of freedom of movement was the price, I'm not even sure the government could get it through the House of Commons as Labour might well vote against it and the ERG and other supporters of Brexit definitely would.

I see the Swiss Model is being floated again in the Sunday Times purporting to come from cabinet level.

There seems to be a belief that BECAUSE we are a biggish economy we WILL be able to cherry 🍒 pick and succeed where Switzerland has failed to get its freedom from key features the EU insists upon.
