Actually, when the American founders were writing the Constitutional impeachment clause, they were inspired by Cromwell, but instead of beheading the president, they only gave "parliament" the power to remove/disqualify a rogue leader.

Also, there were no political parties when they wrote the Constitution and they were actually more afraid of congress having too much power. They did not foresee a scenario where congress would rollover and abrogate their own authority.
