kind of wondering now if the brain cheeses memory by only maintaining a very small cursor that it writes in to.

it's apparently impossible to learn new shit with a damaged hippocampus.

kind of thinking it's just working like some kind of flasher device where it's just conditioning a blob of circuits to respond in the way it saw happen but otherwise everything keeps running as per normal

it also has weird other issues like it has no heirarchial* capabilities and it gets full.

* neocortex gets six layers. and apparently the unit of work is an engram which is weird because the patterns here can be stacked so like

you can only store so many symbols in working memory but the symbols have a flexible definition so "1" "0" "0" takes up three but "100" takes up one

I think consciousness works like a small cursor or a page of video memory that can only see a tiny amount of what's going on in your brain at any given moment. Most of what happens is not seen by our conscious minds.

@Pat that is certainly how attention works and the AI folk are trying to study attention systems since they are not sure how people can reason about being in a big world with limited perception
