voting system where most candidates are stochastically disqualified a month before voting and have 30 days to campaign in a ranked choice voting pool

the Powerball numbers sre used to choose candidates so the lottery protects the randomizer from clowning because they don't want to have to pay out winnings and if the RNG was clowned to get rid of specific candidates people would be able to speculate on the numbers and win

@icedquinn

Sometimes I think that just picking representative via sortition from the pool of eligible voters would yield better results than what we got now.

@Pat i guess what i described is basically sortition with a minor runoff as a final check.

A sortition to pick the candidates. Yeah, that's better, I think. The voters should be able to filter out the really incompetent ones.

@Pat there are also theoretical attacks on some of the ranked methods by just floating more candidates than another party.

i suspect that attack would remain under this model because having more people in the random pool is still more odds of winning a ballot slot.

@icedquinn

Yeah, that attack is used in primaries sometimes.

I think if the sortition picks only a few candidates from a pool of all registered voters for the ranked choice election, there wouldn't be a problem. Or maybe randomly pick candidates from a pool of registered voters and allow voters to opt out if they don't want to serve.
