In my time as a computer contractor, I worked for several outfits that had been recently sold off into the private sector, namely The National Grid, British Rail Business Systems and British Airways. In fact BRBS was sold to the SEMA group during my contract there.

Commonalities between them were absolutely massive overmanning and poor management to the point of rank incompetence (in my humble opinion)!

Having also worked in France, I was aware that the nationalized industries there have a reputation for efficiency and excellent management. I wonder the problem lies in the management in the nationalized industries in the UK being paid an absolute pittance compared to similar positions the private sector, for the privilege of a job for life and a 'good' pension (nothing like as good as the ordinary basic state pension where I live in Luxembourg, but hey!).

Anyone have an opinion of this?

@peterbrown @ChrisMayLA6

I worked for the National Grid (plc?) in Guildford shortly after they were sold off into the private sector. What an absolute shower of shit they were!

@harmonycorrupted

I don't really have an opinion on the rights and wrongs of paid-for-sex and I have never myself used such a service (I almost feel 'unmanly' by admitting that I have never paid for sex) but it is interesting that, so far as I understand the situation, Germany has gone for the fully legal route with fully legal brothels and a degree of protection for the (wo)men in them. Whereas Sweden, again if I understand the situation correctly, has made the user of such services liable for criminal prosecution but lifted the threat of prosecution from the service vendor.

As per usual, the situation in my homeland , the UK, is an total fückin screw up!

@ChrisMayLA6

Yes, I'm assuming the stumbling block is that the EU will not want to be seen to be making concessions without getting a massive benefit in return so...

Quite right too!

@JL_Lycette

Yeah - I myself have prostate cancer and have therefore done a fair bit of research on the subject. From what I can make out, it is probably the most treatable cancer and although he is unfortunate to have the most invasive type, that doesn't mean he is doomed to die of it imminently or indeed at all!

⚠️ This is the post that Mastodon Social took down.

Can you see any harassment?

Can you see any violence or sexual imagery?

Can you see any hate speech?

No.

What you see is a very polite comment suggesting the lessons of history have not been learned.

Those disgraceful mastodon social admins have done this too often - undermining anti-genocide voices.

I have told them I will take formal action via the relevant German regulators.

Shame on them. Shame.

Yes - Starmer is quite the most fückin useless Labour PM of my lifetime and the most useless Labour leader of my lifetime aside from Corbyn and Foot!

I don't understand why Labour can't understand that at the next general election, they will lose if they don't start behaving like a Labour government rather than a tory one!

@lyndamerry484 Why dismiss all the progressive voters who are deeply dissatisfied with Labour?

Criticism isn’t just coming from the far right. It’s coming from people who want Labour to be bolder, fairer, and actually progressive. Ignoring that risks losing more than just a few votes.

Persuasion UK analysis shows 123 seats are vulnerable to Reform switchers — but 250 Labour seats are at risk from voters turning to progressive parties.

Death, forced birth.

So, America didn't treat a woman because she was 9 weeks pregnant and they were worried for her baby. So she died. And now they are keeping her body alive on "life" support to incubate the baby. The baby has multiple health issues and might not be viable. AND they are making her family pay the medical costs for this horror story.
Before she died she was a mother and a nurse.

Wow. Just wow

Who did this? Because it’s fucking cool. 😁

@lyndamerry484

I live in Luxembourg, I refuse to buy anything that is labelled as produce of the UK (the UK farming communities voted overwhelmingly for Brexit so fück them!), likewise with anything American and the same with anything from Israel. I may not have the vote in the USA or Israel but I can still vote with my wallet!

'Farmers fear antibiotic-filled pork is coming to UK in US trade deal 'betrayal''

The same (UK) Farmers who voted to Leave the EU and put our food security at risk.

Not that I want pork with antibiotics, but action have consequences.

Hey, Trump!

You have your ICE thugs rounding up legal U.S. residents, academics on student visas, and others — b/c you claim they’re antisemites. BULLSHIT. You’ve fabricated an excuse to remove brown people and Muslims from America.

If you’re against antisemitism, when you pardoned your Jan 6 rioters, why didn’t you exempt Robert Keith Packer? Yeah, he’s the asshole who was wearing the “Camp Auschwitz" sweatshirt.

You defended Nazis as “very fine people.” FUCK YOU, Donald Trump.

Happy morning, UK and Europe! Brexit has weakened the UK economically, diplomatically, and strategically. It's time to rebuild our relationships and #RejoinEU to regain our strength. 💪 #StrongerTogether

@JackTheCat

As they quite rightly should be!

Britain decided in its collective wisdom to leave and should therefore be denied access to all EU resources - tell the Brits to fück off!

What, precisely, is the correct level
of income inequality for you, @AoC?
Is there a distribution you are
shooting for? Should everyone be
equal?

Some years back now, I had a mini stroke during which I lost completely the ability to write my mother tongue or rather to type my mother tongue which is English. Whilst in the throes of this stroke, I would write a word like “difficult” with four or five ‘i’s and half a dozen ‘f’s then stare at it knowing that wasn’t right but being unable to work out what was wrong with the way I had spelled it!
The neurologist that I eventually saw said that I'd had a transitory ischemic attack in the area of my brain that deals with my mother tongue to stop I asked him whether, had I been typing in French, my second language, if I would have been similarly impacted. He said no apparently one's mother tongue functionality resides in one area of the brain and any other languages that one learns after the first one forms a new language area in another part of the brain altogether. This is one of the advantages of learning languages other than one's mother tongue; it opens up pathways and areas in the brain that would not otherwise be present. This is also allegedly why every language after the first foreign language one learns is easier to learn because the foreign language learning department of the brain and it's necessary links to the rest of your brain have already been installed, as it were

It is edifying to see that countries across the world like Canada and Australia acknowledge the threat from the worthless, incompetent 'trump' and deliver unexpected landslide victories to parties opposed to the orange turd's disgusting policies!
