Ug, I’m having trouble finding people who I know are one here. I guess it’s hard to see people who are on another server? What happens if I switch instances at this point? Do I have to re-set myself up again?

@rwidome I don't think you have to start from scratch (see link below). I may wait a little to see where most of the epi's go (since there's a long cooldown between switching instances)

@PausalZ, gosh I just wish it was easier to actually link up with people, somehow. I guess it will always be a problem that there will be people on another instance that I can't easily find/follow.

@rwidome yeah, your feed has to be 'tailored' by you a bit more. I've found looking through followers of others to be a bit helpful. Really, a central hashtag needs to be adopted by the epi's

The other thing is boosting is more important than favoring (since you don't get 'served' popular tweets)

As with everything, there is always the start-up costs

@rwidome I mean I think makes the most sense (and easiet to find), but I know people like to mix epi with something platform specific. While they haven't caught on, I've seen

@PausalZ I guess things will sort themselves out. I hate to say it but my brief foray into Mastodon has helped me appreciate some Twitter things more! (Although, yes there are cool Mastodon things that Twitter doesn't have.)

@rwidome my biggest gripe is how the reply threads are displayed. I wish they had a nested display

@rwidome but to look on the bright side, I think there is an opportunity to build a strong community and have some of the epitwitter glory days (like before things got a little off the rails in 2020 lol)

@PausalZ I think it CAN take the place of pre-2020 #epitwitter, if enough people come over which I miss and that would be good. But it's too bad that interacting with the rest of the world is probably harder. I mean yeah, the gross troll attacks that came with that sucked, but connecting with people outside the field and outside academia, journalists, seeing hilarious random stuff, that was cool.
