Bike lanes are DRIVER infrastructure. Without cars there's no need for bike lanes - the whole reason for bike lanes is to protect people from drivers. The cost of bike lanes is part of the cost of driving.

When the only location near you with food for sale posts armed police officers at the door and generally makes it feel like Alcatraz converted into a grocery store, who is the mugger? Who is stealing?

We need 🍞, and they set the price to facilitate billions in profit each ¼.

@BrentToderian I always find it odd when I talk to people who complain about traffic and their brain somehow takes them to “if that guy on his bike was also in a car in this traffic jam things would be a bit better for me”.

Underappreciated oceanographic tool of the day: the humble parsnip. Back in 1948, Lewis Richardson and Henry Stommel dropped pairs of parsnips into a Scottish loch and watched how each pair floated apart, to study how energy moves through the ocean. It turns out that the parsnip is the perfect ocean surface drifter. #ocean #oceanography #parsnip

@tomflood in Colorado we have the new "safety stop" which was passed last spring. Cyclists can treat stop signs as yield signs and stoplights as stop signs.

Just dropping in to casually mention that Trump paid $750 in taxes, total, a couple years ago. Zero another. $5.5 million returned to him another. And his effective tax rate is 4%. This is how the rich get and stay rich: by stealing from everyone else.

Why don’t year-end summaries about the economy mention this year’s record high corporate profits, unprecedented levels of corporate concentration, highest-ever CEO pay, or record levels of corporate political contributions in a midterm election?

I DON'T WANT SELF DRIVING CARS!!!!

✔️ I want boring things like public transit that comes so regularly I don't need to check a schedule.

✔️ I want fast passenger rail so accessible and easy it's preferable to suffering airports.

✔️ I want cities that aren't built around cars-as-default

✔️ I want the country to own it.

Alan Turing was a mathematician & cryptographer who was a leading code-breaker in the team that decrypted Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine during WWII. He inspired modern computing & what became artificial intelligence.

Instead of being hailed as a genius & hero, Turing was convicted as a homosexual & forced to endure chemical castration. He died by suicide at 41 in 1954.

The British government didn’t apologize until 2009 & Queen Elizabeth II finally pardoned him in 2013. #history #science
