“根據數名知情人士表示，被囚禁的前3個月，他們被單獨囚禁，每個囚室有2名警衛輪流值班，全天候看守，甚至他們去洗手間也被監視。囚室的燈是24小時亮著。
除了吃飯或接受盤問時，日間他們需要在混凝土製成的椅子上盤膝而坐，直到關節酸痛，他們不能在囚室中走動，晚上會隨時無故被叫醒。
在被盤問期間，他們被恐嚇如果不詳細交待試圖偷渡的過程，會被送到新疆。
報導指出，12人中絕大部分人沒有遭到身體虐待，但7名熟悉看守所情況的人表示，李宇軒的囚室持續傳出尖叫聲，其中一人表示，「李面對的情況相較其他人惡劣10倍。」”
