I am still IT for all household computer products, though my expertise is AWS and not Windows.
To date, the two most effective tools, in order, are:
1. Power cycling
2. Replacing
Last night, for example, the HMDI splitter for my daughter's laptop wasn't outputting to the monitor. (The splitter had already been replaced after blinking too many times). So I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Problem solved.
@PiperPilotPaul In all seriousness (I know, where's the fun in that?) I think there is, but it's not as widespread as LinkedIn would have you believe. And IMHO administering Windows breaks your brain, so getting good at it is like rooting for head injuries.
