@andrewdessler I think it's very important to make it clear why this process won't work.

Science works because anyone can create a theory. It has to make some predictions and explain phenomena. Then these predictions and explanations are tested against independent measurements.
If measurements agree with predictions then the theory is not wrong. And you continue to test and perfect the theory as long as it is consistent with the data. It is binary: predictions are consistent with measurements or the are not.

So there is no need for the red team- experimental measured data is the only red team that is relevant to the discussion.

Road crashes are a major social problem, with 1.19 million road fatalities per year.

Speeding is the number one cause of road crashes worldwide, especially in cities where pedestrians are highly exposed.

Scientific evidence demonstrated that more than 40% lives saved with the introduction of 30 km/h speed limits in cities.

Launching public awareness campaigns and encouraging Public Transport use and active mobility could be proved beneficial.

The subject matter of the trial I’m booked to interpret this week is super heavy. I’m gonna need giggles, folks, and lots of ‘em.

So please send me your memes (with alt text for our friends who need it, please), your jokes, your huddled anecdotes. Send me your groaner puns that would make your dad beam with pride. Send me your zingers and your groaners. Send me silliness in spades, will ya?

Thanks in advance.

@Sou @petergleick for me the underlying reason is unregulated internet social media. If you were only to ban the bots, let alone regulate algorithm biases you'd solve half the problem. But now they are too big to fail. I recommend Mindf*CK by Chris Wiley.

@tao don't know if this is related but just yesterday I was thinking how some NBA teams rest players during the regular season with the reasoning that if they don't have all their players healthy they can't win.
But even if they are healthy the chances of winning are small for most teams, so having more in game practice can have a greater impact on winning then health since all teams will be dealing with some amount of injuries.
Is this related to your topic or did I misinterpret it?

The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%. Via @Treehugger

Spot on by @carolecadwalla & absolutely terrifying.

She is the modern day version of King Canute, exhorting us to witness the infinite fetid ocean of shit rising inexorably around her, as we wring our hands & try to dilute it with our pathetic little eco-friendly water bottles full of “truth”.

It’s not that we’re losing the war; we’re fighting completely the wrong one.

@dangillmor well republicans already bought most of the social media, so they have their work cut out.

@mejs take care, sorry to hear about the troubles. If you do what feels right you won't regret it

I think it's going to be more important than ever that #Mastodon and the #fediverse are not centrally operated out of the US unlike almost every other social media platform out there.

@michael_w_busch that's why I deleted my account - the rules do not apply to everyone.

He may be starting with lanes in Toronto, but all communities are at risk, including Ottawa. We need to stand up for everyone who uses these lanes, benefits from the cyclists shopping along the routes, and all those who will be too afraid to ride because of the increased danger. See you there! #ottbike #biketooter
