I’m thinking of 5 numbers such that their mean is equal to their median. If 4 of the numbers are 14, 8, 16, and 14, what is the 5th number?

Please CW answers and hints in your responses.

Worked out answer.

@QOTO Central value must be 14, so 8+14+14+16+x = 14*5. 52+x = 70. x = 18.

@QOTO the median is either one of the 4 given numbers or the secret number.

if the median was the secret number what would that imply?

knowing the median, what should the sum be?
