I have a copy of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations on my desk at work. It's got a bunch of underlines in it. Every day, I randomly open the book and think about the underlined phrase that jumps out at me first.

Today's: "Leave other people's mistakes where they lie."

This is, of course, all assuming that the choice you don't agree with is not actual abuse, harassment, directly harmful, dehumanizing behavior, and so on. Don't try to have private conversations with people if it's bad for your safety, mental health, or general wellbeing.

Much of building community is about building trust. If you are part of a community & someone makes a choice you do not agree with, try the following:

- have a private conversation
- ask questions
- assume positive intent (but remember that intent ≠ impact)

Public criticism isn't a healthy first step. It's not healthy for individual people, and it's not healthy for communities. Be good to each other.
