@oliphant @futurebird Talk of using a second communications platform to to manage a tool designed for communication, rings “design failure” bells. Out of band communication between admins probably should have been baked in from the start.
@MetalSamurai@mas.to
There's a fundamental disconnect between some of the foundational conceits of many Fediverse platforms, and how they're used in practice.
Things make so, so, so much more sense viewed through the lens of "many self-supporting and independent communities, which just so happen to also be able to communicate outside of their neighbourhood" than they do through the lens of "coherent but distributed social network".
A federated operator chat isn't necessary in the former, but it's critical in the latter. Shared block lists aren't necessary in the former, but are a godsend in the latter. Network operators aren't a concept in the former, but become a key part of organizational infrastructure in the latter.

@MetalSamurai @kichae @futurebird @oliphant@oliphant.social I wonder if #UFoI is considering something formal in that avenue, or if it's just a mutual federation treaty at this point. I haven't really been paying attention to what's going on there.
@SETIEric @futurebird @kichae @oliphant You have stepped on a landmine. As far as I can see #UFoI is controversial. Many instances have sworn to defer rate from anyone that joins it, due to personal history with the founder, issues with the speed and reliability of moderation by committee and other issues. We are into cat herding territory here.
