The NY Times' excellent reporting on a soon-to-be Trumpist member of Congress (from Long Island) whose background claims seem almost entirely phony raises a fairly obvious question: Why didn't the Times bother to check this stuff BEFORE the election?

It should be standard for news orgs to check out local candidates' claims, and do it in a timely way.

According to the Jan. 6 committee's report, when people passed through the metal detectors to see Trump speak, security confiscated 269 knives/blades; 242 cannisters of pepper spray; 30 blunt instruments; 18 brass knuckles; 18 tasers; along with body armor and gas masks.

Republicans have called Jan. 6th "legitimate protest."

In 1933, there were 500,000 Jewish people in Germany, of a total population of 67 M. That's a bit less than 0.75 percent.

Today there are an estimated 1.6 M adults in the US that identify as transgender: about 0.5 percent of US adults.

It doesn't take a large group to serve as targets for fascist hatred and violence.

A small minority can play that role just fine.

Note that the J6C Report begins where only a handful of reporters have gone: with the words of the actual rioters. You need that to prove incitement but TV lawyers said it was all a waste of time.
