But that also means that tonight's out-of-schedule attacks lay bare the motive of this attack too: an attack whose only purpose is terrorizing civilians.

Padding your resume is saying you speak conversational Spanish when you last took it in college 10 years ago but can carry on a basic conversation still. Making up your educational history, financial history, work history, or ethnic background is straight up fraud, and most employers would go on to fire you if they discovered those lies. How would anyone ever trust this man with literally anything even in a normal job ever again, let alone let him participate in our national government? Despicable.

So Southwest Airlines cancelled the flight of passengers that were waiting at the gate, and then called the police on them to threaten them with arrest for "trespassing." In the USA, calling the police on someone, especially a Black person, is a violent act.

Instead, use the time you saved to learn more about how this network functions, who the people behind ActivityPub are (and what that even is), who the people keeping instances running are, who the people moderating instances are; you can even get your hands dirty by digging through the Mastodon GitHub issue queue and learn why exactly some design decisions ended up the way they did, it's all right there!

Mastodon is not off-brand Twitter. You do this entire community a massive disservice by painting it as such, and you do our profession a disservice by expressing a complete lack of curiosity about this community before you report on it.
