Kavanaugh & SCOTUS decorum

@hashtaggrammar I think judges need to have those qualities only when performing their duties as a judge. I do not feel those qualities need to be reflected in their personal life however, in fact their personal life should be private most of the time.

I dont think a truly impartial person in their daily life even exists. The best you can hope for is someone who simply puts on an act in their personal life to appear impartial. Which basically means a person who will constantly lie about thier views and opinions to get you to think they are impartial all the time. Thats the LAST thing I want in a judge.

In the end they should be judged by their behavior and rullings when behind the bench or when acting in the capacity as a judge, not their personal life.

@freemo Oh I agree with you that everyone should be able to be free to be themselves in their private life (and here's hoping that their true character isn't shit).

But once you're in government, you're representing your government and your role as soon as you agree to an interview on a major news network or in a Senate hearing.

If you were in a job interview, you'd be expected to behave as you would at work, not at home with a beer.

I think it's fair to say that if you were b a job interview and someone accused you of being a rapist it would be acceptable to have some emotion in your reaction.

I think if you're for the nominee, everything looks good. If you're against him, everything is bad. If he's emotionless he's heartless and disqualified, if he shows emotion he's unhinged and disqualified.

But back to the original point I think it serves us well to remember that our politicians and judges (and teachers and pastors and CEOs and all those with power and leadership) are human, likely to make mistakes, to have emotions, etc.

I would like to say I judge people by how they do what their responsibility is...how does the president execute the laws, how do the legislatures write quality laws, how do judges make decisions about said laws, but I often get distracted by personalities and others secondary or tertiary issues.
