@sjb @g Blacklist and whitelist don't have their origins in racial matters as far as I can tell. Their origins seem to be related to the religious concepts of "black" meaning something bad and "white" meaning something pure or holy. The earliest known uses are from the 17th century.

Also with higher latitudes, the amount of daily darkness grows with bad effects on mind's health (and life in general, not only for humans).
