under communism, there'd be no SUVs, because there's no rational reason to build SUVs

is there any better metric for economic superiority

@izaya I believe there are individually rational reasons for a person to want a SUV.

@izaya
Consider a driver who lacks confidence when driving, and feels afraid of other cars.
It's probably not common, I doubt more than 10% drivers would be like that.

Lack of confidence leads to indecisiveness. An indecisive driver poses a danger to themselves and others.

If giving such person a SUV makes them confident because their car is big and proteccs them, then by giving that 10% people SUVs, you improve safety for everyone.

@izaya of course this breaks down as soon as people start buying SUVs for an ego boost. There's certainly more than 10% people that want to boost their ego.

@wolf480pl you have to remember that the marketing of SUVs in the US was literally appealing to the lizard brain "what if I need to run over a gang member"

@izaya well that's stupid. The person should just buy a gun instead. It's US afterall.

@wolf480pl yeah but capitalism; why just sell them a gun when you could sell them a gun, a car, and a bigger fuel bill

@izaya ok, so how do you propose a communism would solve this?

@wolf480pl there's no good reason to build SUVs so they wouldn't get built in a planned economy
@wolf480pl it was, of course, a shitpost following seeing another accident caused by a soccer mum in a massive SUV while I was shopping today

@izaya sorry but my hobby is to take unfunny shitposts and treat them seriously

@izaya

In fact I think shitposting is a US colonial tool.

It's not joking, it's not sarcasm or irony... it's not even meant to attract attention or to produce a feedback.

It's shitting into the global noosphere, just like many company pollute the biosphere.

A very US thing, indeed.

@wolf480pl

@Shamar @izaya
That's some strong claims you're making, and strong claims require strong evidence. What do you have to back up your point?

@Shamar @izaya
Actually, let's first make sure we're on the same page:

You're saying USA (actually who? the government? the companies? the nation as a whole?) is *knowingly* and *intentionally* introducing shitposting to the western cultural sphere in order to gain influence over other countries?

@wolf480pl

No.

I'm arguing they are mindlessy polluting the global noosphere because they can (slow language barrier). And they can do so mindlessy because they are an imperialist nation.

@izaya

@Shamar @izaya
So there was no shitposting by Italians in Italian that developed independently of USian shitposting in English?

Follow

@wolf480pl

Well, that's a good question.

I cannot think of anything like that.

We have harse debate, "polemica" which is a totally destructive mode of arguing is developed to artistic levels and so are invectives ("invettiva") where you attack someone you hate (or pretend to) with all the argument you can think of.

But the point is that you always have at least one message to convey, to the other side and/or to the bystenders.

Shitposting does not.

Thats why it's not done with malice (except when done as a form of marketing that, I would say, is specific of the fediverse): it's like leaving your waste in a park because you don't care or you find it funny.

I can't think of anything like that in Italian literature.

I guess we have shitposter here now, but they are mostly fictional shitposter.
Because you know, after decades of USA influence, Italians follow american fashion and all.

We ARE a US colony, right now.

And yet shitposting still sound like a pointless waste of people time, cpu cycles and bandwidth.

That's why I felt @izaya was right about you being unable to understand shitposting because you are European.

@Shamar @wolf480pl My meaning was more along the lines of Europeans having a different sense of humor so they miss the joke, because by my understanding, shitposting is meant to be funny, and while humor isn't terribly productive, it can be entertaining.

@izaya @Shamar if I was sure that noone reasonable would seriously think that, I'd laugh at it too.

But this is fedi. An unorganized mixture of actual marxists, 4chan-grade edgelords, certified victims, blockchain shills, French revolution romanticizers, free software maximalists, vegan solarpunks, assholes like me who overuse stereotypes, and more.

I can't think of a political view that "you wouldn't believe someone posted on fedi".
