Feds fine #Mormon church for illicitly hiding $32 billion investment fund behind shell companies

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints engaged in the scheme for more than 20 years.

@GottaLaff 5 million fine doesn't even cover one days interest earned on 32 billion. What a joke.

@GottaLaff Most likely they didn't care if they got caught because they knew the fine would be a drop in the bucket.

What REALLY pisses me off is how hard they guilt their members into paying "tithing" while all the time amassing a huge portfolio that earns the church more then their operational costs.

Fucking thieves.

@Mrfunkedude Ugh, yes. I had some really close friends who were active in the Mormon church, and I could never fathom why. Smart, informed people who fell for their bunk.

@GottaLaff As an ex-mormon I understand it perfectly.

There's a strong emphasis on community and families that the church creates, and then uses to prey on their members.

They teach that "families can be together forever" and then tell you that if you don't pay your tithing, fulfill your responsibilities to the church, and bring new members in, then you will be separated from your family and friends forever.

To the members that's a HUGE motivating fear.

You gotta admit though, they wear some really fun underpants! I mean, who isn’t attracted to fun underpants!?
