@jeffjarvis tldr:

1. Don’t project human qualities (beware of anthropomorphism)
2. Don’t view AI as a monolith
3. Be skeptical of AI tools (beware of automation bias)

Also, before you use the term “mind” be aware that philosophy and science have spent centuries and volumes trying define the term with minimal progress. AI ain’t mind and minimally approaches the label of “brain”.

@SpinozasHeresy @jeffjarvis @BenjaminHan Current approaches to generative SALAMI have less in common with brains than actual Genoa salami does.

This begs the devil’s advocate to ask the question: if “mind” is so hard to define, how is it you can then be so sure AI isn’t it? @SpinozasHeresy @BenjaminHan @jeffjarvis

I don’t have the space here, but Wikipedia is a good place to understand the difficulties with the definition of mind. /1

For more on the difficulties of the AI question, John Searles’ “Chinese Box” thought experiment is instructive. /2
