The New York Times has sued OpenAI arguing that millions of its articles were used to train their models which now compete with the publisher.

There are now so many of these lawsuits I’d assumed the NYT already was suing.

It’s quite clear we will need some sort of Supreme Court ruling on whether training models on copyrighted works is infringement or not. This is basically how search engines work today but they do not compete with the works in question.
