It seems fitting that right when the entire crypto house of cards is burning in the dumpster, Trump comes out with NFT’s. The best bullshit application of Blockchain bullshit invented yet. Trump university anyone? 🙄

We’ve been sold the “great man” for well over a century. Alone. Resolute. One of those did not ignite fusion for the 1st time last week. Our western myths gloss over that the first transcontinental railroad was financed and subsidized by federal and state governments. We forget westward expansion was fueled by the Homestead Act (free land). Rural electrification, the Central Valley Project, etc. Sorry, Randians, sorry Republicans, that was public investment. digbysblog.net/2022/12/14/amer

Maybe we should just think of Twitter as an instance in the Fediverse and port what’s useful to Mastodon and leave the Nazis to themselves.

Rhode Island District Court denies a preliminary injunction against large capacity magazine ban finding that they are not "arms" within the plain text of the Second Amendment. Even if they were the court says that plaintiffs have failed to prove they are weapons relating to self defense. storage.courtlistener.com/reca

Starfish walk using hundreds of tiny tube feet on the underside of their arms, as seen in this fascinating timelapse by Juliette Horn at the Frost Museum of Science.

If a venture capital made no attempt to monetize the Internet, I’m not sure we would have the Internet we have today. It had to centralize before it decentralized or it would never be viable. The exciting thing is that the walled gardens we live in have outgrown their usefulness and only occupy a few square inches of the vast real estate that is the Internet. I think we’re at the beginning of a new land rush, and we don’t quite know what to call it yet. Maybe we should be thanking Elon Musk?

I’d really love to see Morocco win today because, well, France. Just sayin’.

Mastodon feels a little like the alternative I was fantasizing about in this 2019 comic.

Little Senator Marco wants to ban TikTok to save us from the Chinese government. Heaven forbid the Chinese government get access to my personal kitty kat video watching data. It might get them to trick me into buying Chinese made kitty kat toyz! Good thing useful idiot South African apartheid boy can have all the kitty kat data he wants. Praise the Lord for our hardworking patriotic congressman!

Rep. Sherman's turn. He has not been quiet in the past about his distaste for crypto.

"My fear is that we'll view Sam Bankman-Fried as just one big snake in a crypto garden of Eden. The fact is, crypto is a garden of snakes."

Imagine how shitty you have to be to get booed by people who are still willing to pay money to go see Dave Chapelle

Regulating cryptocurrency is about as useful as regulating unicorns. We need more congressman, talking this way:

Will Smith’s roll in King Richard was snubbed by the academy for an Oscar nomination. Queue the conservative outrage over “woke” Hollywood and cancelled Will Smith. 🤮

Can anyone explain why the fuck “Ancient Alien Civilizations” is on “The History Channel”? The same reason they call Fox “news”?

File under dribs and drabs: for those that might not know, Orange county was thick with the Klan for the better part of the 20th century. In fact, they really never went away and are alive and well in places like Huntington Beach. However, this is a pretty big deal:

I used to know a woman that for years complained incessantly about her abusive husband and how much she wanted to leave… and never did. He died, she had regrets. Twitter ain’t your goddamn spouse. Get on with it with will you? Please? And then quit talking about it, because it does no one any good.

Looking desperately forward to the day when I can say "Twitter" and people will briefly look perplexed and then roll their eyes and make the "I just threw up in my mouth" sound.

The confederacy was never given a proper burial. Poetic justice would be that those most harmed by the confederacy would finally put a bullet in the zombie. I wasn’t sure what I thought of this when I first saw it, but after the Warnock a victory in Georgia, it’s starting to make sense to me.
