Is this the cutest fungus ever!? 😲🍄💙
This mini mushroom was found in Taiwan and is believed to be Mycena subcyanocephala, often called the blue-headed bonnet. The species is characterized by its teeny tiny height of around 1-3 cm, and its blue to blue-gray cap (typically only 0.5–1.5 cm in diameter).
M. subcyanocephala thrives in temperate climates and usually colonizes decaying wood or leaf litter.

Wetlands are Earth’s most threatened ecosystem, with 35% of the world’s #wetlands lost since 1970.
Protecting them can help with global challenges such as Climate Change, biodiversity loss and food and water security.

Oh shit now the "hey transpeople are evil cause one just shot some kids" morons are creeping in on my timeline... its almost like being a member of one of the most abused, ridiculed, attacked, and tortured groups in existance (trans people) might lead to a very very small portion of them snapping and becoming violent... the level of stupdity of these people to think it infers trans people are just bad people, instead of recognizing it might be a symptom of extreme abuse, is mind boggling.
"Too often we think of 'Nature' as happening somewhere else, more exotic, more wild. But what Wild Isles has shown us is that here in the UK nature is just as amazing, just as precious, and just as under threat as the rest of the world."
In light of the People's Plan For Nature published today, Butterfly Conservation CEO Julie Williams looks at why it is so important that we come together to take the action needed to protect and renew nature 👉 https://butrfli.es/3TGdIZw

@sciencebase Can you see orange on an orange underwing in flight? I might have just seen one in the street light, bit far off though. Or is this Irish Flake a bit strong do you think?
Very much a fan of this image from https://www.visualcapitalist.com/countries-by-share-of-earths-surface/ that shows why that recent UN treaty on protecting the ocean beyond national jurisdiction matters - this is a HUGE proportion of Earth's surface. #ocean #BBJN https://press.un.org/en/2023/sgsm21708.doc.htm

As awareness of the human impact on the environment grows, people seek ways to leave the Earth better than they found it. Today on #TheBigPicture, Team Takei's Amelia Mavis Christnot offers some insight and guidance on eco-friendly funeral and burial practices: https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/eco-friendly-funeral-burial-options
Rachel Carson was born in 1907. She became a marine biologist & prolific writer.
Carson questioned the assumption that humans should dominate #nature. She recognized the dangers to natural systems from the misuse of pesticides like DDT. She also accused the chemical industry of spreading lies & politicians of accepting industry claims uncritically.
Her 1962 book, Silent Spring, is widely credited as being the catalyst for the modern environmental movement. #history #science #HistoryRemix

Ok now that Lineker and the BBC have sorted out their differences, can we talk about the Government’s new Immigration Bill which is reminiscent of the laws of 1930s Germany? #Fascism #BBC #ImmigrationBill #IsBravermanAFacist?
"The gas boiler is our livelihood — if it gets banned, we have a real problem." The fossil fuel industry is fighting hard for its survival. Liquid petroleum gas firms want a EU directive to favour biofuels and hydrogen despite serious concerns over their viability.

Make no mistake: History has already taught us in plain terms where this is headed if we do not collectively stop it in its tracks right now.
I am not an alarmist. I am historically literate, and we must all be in the face of this attack. https://statuskuo.substack.com/p/when-they-call-for-eradication-it?sd=pf
All of England's rivers have failed quality tests for pollution… our rivers, essential to our survival, are choked with sewage and industrial chemicals ... ALL ... and this Tory Government allowed it ... Well encouraged it ... If you use water for recreational, like surfing you risk your health ... So preventable, but making profit got in the way, fly tipping on a grand scale ... Imagine if the gov allowed, on land, fly tipping

I sent this chart to a dear friend yesterday because I think it's important for people to understand the risks they're taking even though the message we all get is that COVID is over.
Big picture: with every infection, the risk of every complication goes up.
You have not "gotten it over with" after your first infection.
I'm tired of it. You're tired of it. But #CovidIsNotOver.
My Coindesk article on the uncertain future of crypto banking. The problem is not the banking model, it's the customers. Crypto is so volatile and corrupt that any bank involved with it is inevitably facilitating fraud. Full reserves are no defence. https://www.coindesk.com/consensus-magazine/2023/03/02/what-now-for-crypto-banking/
