@georgia @meowski @sadladpress@freespeechextremist.com Yeah, I got it like a week or so ago.

Don't really know what lineage is, so no.

@Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress it's an open source fork of android with the google malware removed
@meowski @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress Is there an alternative to Android without going to the other companies? Tell me more.
@rasterman @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress Lineage is Android so it works on most android compatible devices, as long as you can unlock the bootloader.
https://lineageos.org/
@meowski @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress ...what's the catch, here? Why is this the first time I have heard about this? Sounds almost too good. Well, no. If it were good, it wouldn't be Android, in the first place, but it's the next best thing!
@rasterman
you haven't heard about it cause its not advertised and 99% of people care more about muh convenience
@meowski @Surasanji@Surasanji@qoto.org @sadladpress
@georgia @meowski @sadladpress But in Android's case, that convenience comes attached with a soul-draining OS that I swear runs worse with every passing week, even if you restore it to factory settings. :shock_kosaki:
@rasterman @georgia @sadladpress My battery lasts for days. I keep it in airplane mode except when i want to check messages. Everything is set with very restrictive permissions. Hard to overstate the sense of relief you get from not having google crap running in the background being a ho.

not to let this give anyone a false sense of security. There are still embedded systems in the phone that you may not have control over. It's a non-trusted platform. But I'm at least semi confident that Google isn't spying on me.
@rasterman @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress Just chekc if your device is supported first. It's been around for a while. Used to be cyanogen mod

Here is song that is appropriate to the convo:

@meowski @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress Isn't there just a way I can install KDE Neon on it? If it can still backfire, I'd rather go for my first choice. :blobthinkingcool:
@rasterman @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress I was very diligent in looking for a stable linux OS and they all turned out to be not quite there yet. Android has a linux kernel and you get the shell built in
@rasterman @Surasanji @georgia @sadladpress One annoyance I've found with the oneplus is that I can't re-lock the boot loader now that i flashed the rom. That's a big security issue, but overall still better than having google services
@chuculate @Surasanji @georgia @meowski @sadladpress Ah, yeah, that.

No, sorry. No idea.

I just started using a smartphone this year. And I still don't really use it. But I would if it had a proper OS.
