Does anyone know a rough figure of how many people use mastodon/fediverse/gab/whatever ?
@nesquik I don't know. I thought the technology was called mastodon and everyone had their own instances. I don't know. I mean basically anyone who can reply to this post would count.
I though it was like 10 million or so people.

To my understanding Mastodon is software that meshes different social protocols together. The protocols being gnusocial, friendacitivity, ostatus, etc. Pleroma would be software that does the same thing Mastodon does.
I believe https://fediverse.network/ has the stats for all instances that announce themselves.

https://fediverse.network/ says there are 4.4 million users. Not sure how many of those would be active. Maybe 1%?
An employee at Gab's host leaked that there was 10s of thousands of active users and it wouldn't surprise me if Gab was the most active instance.
So maybe 44k to 100k active users on the fediverse?
