On the eve of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Putin threatened Boris Johnson with a missile strike. Johnson recounted this in a BBC documentary, Putin vs. the West, saying that Putin told him it would only take a minute. Johnson had warned Putin that war would be a disaster and that Ukraine would not join NATO in the foreseeable future. Nine days later, Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace flew to Moscow to meet with Sergei Shoigu, where he was assured that Russia would not attack Ukraine. However, less than two weeks later, Russian tanks crossed the border into Ukraine. Johnson then received a phone call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who informed him that they were being attacked everywhere. Johnson offered to help evacuate Zelenskyy to safety, but he heroically stayed where he was.
