Why is there an increasing amount of discussion surrounding the potential renaming of Povitroflotsky Prospekt to European Union Avenue? The name Povitroflotskyi has been a remnant of the past since the 1920s, and has survived the Soviet Union and more than 30 years of Ukrainian independence. However, the successor to this air fleet is now attacking Ukraine and Kyiv, causing death and destruction. The idea of renaming the avenue to European Union Avenue is now being actively supported by public figures and intellectuals, as the EU has been a strong supporter of Ukraine since the beginning of the war, and European integration has become a priority for the country. Additionally, the avenue leads to Sikorsky Airport, which is used by many Kyiv residents to travel to the EU in peacetime. The war has highlighted the need for Ukraine to move away from its post-Soviet past and embrace the European direction, and Povitroflotskyi has outlived its usefulness and must follow the Russian ship.
