For almost five months, 98 Polish police officers worked with the ATLAS group to help demine the Kyiv region in Ukraine. The ATLAS group is a police task force that brings together special EU counterterrorism units, and Poland was the only country to respond to the Ukrainian call for pyrotechnics, as other countries considered the mission too dangerous. The bomb squad removed around 2,000 dangerous items, with one of the first tasks being to clear the territory of an airport near Kyiv. Thankfully, none of the police officers were injured during the mission, and it has now been successfully completed.
