People like to act like “this was all so long ago” and I’m just sitting here like…my Grandma is still with us and she’s 93. Some of us still have living relatives who lived through this nightmare.

Don’t let yourself think of it as some long, bygone era that could never happen again.

Hesitation, appeasement, and living in denial let it happen the first time.

My father is 95. He dropped out of school to go fight Hitler. He joined the merchant marine. Funny how that worked out. Here in his golden years he has been finally getting recognition. First from Norway and then last year Congress gave the Congressional Gold Medal to all surviving members of the Merchant Marine after ignoring them for 80 years.
Norway had an excuse. They wanted to give him some medals after the war but the U.S. government said they didn't know where he was. Even though he paid income tax every year. But when he moved to Canada, Norway was alerted.
