The United States allowed the transfer of American weapons for the Azov brigade, - The Washington Post

"After a thorough inspection, the Ukrainian 12th special purpose brigade "Azov" passed the Leahy Law inspection conducted by the US State Department," the State Department said in a statement.

Here, the US agency refers to the "Leahy Law", named after former senator Patrick J. Leahy and the author of the document, which prohibits the transfer of US military aid to foreign units found to have committed human rights abuses. Accordingly, "Azovians" do not belong to this category.

When exactly the corresponding restriction was removed, the publication does not specify.

Azov was banned from receiving American weapons about 10 years ago amid "concerns in Washington about the group's origins." Fakes about "Azov" were among the top topics of Russian propaganda for a long time, and rossMI actively tried to promote all kinds of invented "horror stories" about "Azov" people, in particular, to the countries of the West, that some of the founders of the brigade have racist, xenophobic and ultra-nationalist views
