ATTACK ON KOTLUBAN WORSE THAN REPORTED

A couple of days ago Ukraine launched around 120 drones at Kotluban ammunition depot deep inside Russia.
Russia claimed to have shot down almost everything and that nothing hit the base in the Volgograd region. Air defences were active and the Ukrainians admit they lost far more drones than in prior attacks - but to be fair if the Russians had failed by now to make some effort, it would have been beyond gross incompetence.
It did seem unlikely all the drones were shot down. And we know now they were not.
Part of the problem is this site is more remote and has fewer public roads, and the other is that a renewed effort to prosecute people who publish video or images online has been ramped up, deterring would be videographers.
However we know that several heavy explosions, artillery cooking off and detonations consistent with rocket fuel were seen and there have been some long distance images showing the site was hit.
No doubt Sentinel already confirmed it, but it’s the first public knowledge that it was more successful than the Russians let on.
The strike was apparently made after yet another batch of Iranian missiles was delivered.

On the subject of the Iranian missiles, the question why haven’t we seen so many in action has to be asked. They are short ranged and mostly only good for lobbing into defended towns or civilian targets. Their accuracy is low.
The answer is that Russia has to supply its own trucks to launch them from, Iran delivers the missiles and the canister but it’s up to Russia to get them into the field. They haven’t been able to do so, with insufficient trucks being manufactured.
This led to large build ups of missiles in depots and their storage in the open, hence the Ukrainians taking advantage of the situation while they can.
And there you have a prime example of how Russian industrial production problems have led directly to a stockpile of missiles developing, in turn providing a valuable opportunity to destroy not just the missiles but entire ammo dumps.
This is exactly why these things do matter and they do have an impact beyond the simple lack of trucks.
