The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a Russian GRU “mole” who was providing Defense Forces’ special operations plans in enemy-held territory to the Russians
The suspect, a lieutenant colonel and commander of one of the Special Operations Forces units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, had been recruited by the Russians prior to the full-scale war.
He was tasked with supplying the Russians with plans for Defense Forces’ combat operations in enemy-held territory, including intelligence on sabotage and reconnaissance raids carried out by Ukrainian special forces beyond the frontline in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson oblasts and Crimea. The Russians intended to use this information to target and eliminate special forces operatives.
The lieutenant colonel has been formally charged with treason. He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
