Recall reading about diabetics working at making insulin in a home or community lab. Best I recall this was in California, USA and possibility in the city of Oakland.
Don't recall if they were still working on the process or not. So just did a search. Found plenty of sites that looked pretty dodgy, but here's one possibility for anyone interested in following the research and development of this process:
