Has anyone had VLC bork out on them playing mkv files by continue to play audio but the screen freezes? If so, any ideas on fixing it?

@War_Kittens I've never really had that happen before. VLC only chooses not to play a video file if the video file is broken in my experience with that program.
Do other video players or video editing programs recognize the file and play it correctly?

@SoftwareSlicer
I'll have to try it on Android. They're all large files and seem to be 10-bit encoding.

@War_Kittens Yeah, I don't think VLC should have many issues even with 10 bit video on Android but your mileage might vary.
Usually I just use VLC on a Windows or Linux desktop for that.

@War_Kittens Dang, Does it provide an error code or logs?
Either way, That's certainly odd. I know that Windows and other systems might have certain licensing issues with HEVC files but VLC should still work.
You could also try viewing on another device like your phone or something.

@SoftwareSlicer
Nope, it just keeps playing audio with frozen video and sometimes I can't even ctrl alt del out of it. My laptop isn't super fancy but it's not old. It's got an nvidia card in it etc.

@War_Kittens Yeah, That's super weird. I'd recommend maybe updating your gpu drivers then if your whole laptop freezes while attempting to load video. You can find gpu and system software for your laptop on Nvidia and your manufacturer's website respectively.

@SoftwareSlicer
Yeah at this point I just... Acquired a different encoding of the video but if I can't I'll attempt a tablet etc. Thanks for your help!
