What a joy the weather has been this weekend - not typical Bank Holiday weather at all - so we’re here in making the most of it.

“They cut speed limits, changed street design, removed space for cars…Now it appears that work is paying off. #Oslo & #Helsinki are reaping the rewards of committed action on making their roads safer, reducing pedestrian fatalities to zero last year.”

@vicgrinberg fascinating. One thing I don’t understand is how a transient ‘flash’ exciting dust clouds thousands of light years from us is observable in the same time frame as the flash hitting earth’s atmosphere? Sorry to be dim.

“once cities make the decision to reduce or remove cars, they rarely go back. No one I spoke to for this piece could name a recent sizable pedestrianization or traffic-reduction scheme that had been reversed once it had been given time to have an effect.” Via WIRED. #cities #cars #urbanism#streets #CarFree

My little Citroen Ami just got even cuter with the addition of orange wheels. Every time I park up folk come over to ask questions - today so far 5 different people…

Took this photo last year in December. Today it is just as cold and there is a little snow. So it fits well with today's #ThickTrunkTuesday
Have a nice and peaceful day.

This is a formal portrait of the surviving Apollo astronauts. That's Buzz Aldrin in the silver tux. I have to imagine the conversation went like this:

ALDRIN: Ok, let's get started
PHOTOGRAPH: Mr. Aldrin, you are aware that this is a formal portrait?
BA: I'm not an idiot son.
PG: Well your suit-
BA: Son, have you been to the moon?
PG: No sir.
BA: Well I have. The moon. The motherlovin' moon. In a tin can run by a calculator and powered by a can of sterno. (1/)

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the #Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003, and replaced it with a restored stream and 1000 acre park in the city’s centre, not only did it transform the city’s public life and economic success, but the vehicle traffic got better.

The traffic got BETTER.

The post box outside my daughter’s London flat is looking splendid, sporting a new coat of paint. This means the view from her 1st floor (2nd floor in USA terminology) kitchen is improved; from this window she looks down onto the post box, & before its repaint the top was covered in bird-poo as there is a beautiful tree right next to it. Last time I visited, I bought a wire brush, donned a mask & scrubbed the top removing all the droppings to improve her aerial view. I was a bit scared, I admit, that I’d be arrested for “defacing His Majesty’s post box” so I did it after dusk! Anyway, Royal Mail have now completed the make-over - hurrah!
