@cleanairstars Of the recommended portable air cleaners, do any allow for reputable off-brand filters? Isn't the device's HEPA rating determined by the entire device assembly? I'm cynically reminded of printers and (lifetime) ink cost in this regard and curious how manufacturer lock-in affects long-term cost comparisons at scale, (such as a school with multiple units per classroom).

@WilliamRamsey They probably don’t recommend them, but where they are available and can be independently tested for efficacy (same fit, pressure drop,
filter media surface area, and similar filtration efficiency) then there’s no reason why they won’t work as well.
