I don't want to just be posting about numbers like a clock, but the 2 million mark of monthly active users across the network is a pretty big deal. This is going big numbers! Shout out to all the server operators who are absorbing this wave.

Musk is not, of course, the first to use the "Vox populi, Vox Dei" quote out of context to justify dangerous actions. The phrase has been a political punching bag for centuries, notably in the 1700s amid the Jacobite rebellions. Although the use of the phrase in the opposite to the original context has been common since the 1327 when the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Walter Reynolds, brought charges against King Edward II.

@adamjkucharski just joined Mastodon. He's one of the great, great epidemiologists of infectious diseases. Give him a follow. You'll learn a lot. I have!

Hopefully at this point folks realize that the reason no senior Canadian public health official (including @CPHO_Canada@twitter.com) has used the word “airborne” (even if they’ve described airborne to a T in communications) is because we DO have regulations in place for airborne hazards…

(🧵) From the 1880s to the 1960s, #antisemitism was ingrained in the fabric of #Canadian society. If you were Jewish you were barred entry, prevented from ownership, from membership. It is not ancient history. Canadians forget so quickly, but we still face antisemitism daily. /

It is so cold outside I saw a politician with his hands in his own pockets.

Bot armies that attack individuals and exploit gang action should never happen, especially when they employ money to pay for power in the system, either by funding individuals, or by paying for technology, including bots.

As twitter was an instrument of power, it makes sense that it attracted Musk. I, for one, hope that the impending fall of Twitter will enable a better social platform to grow. The fediverse structure of local communities that can interact may be an important step forward.

If you download your Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.

So here's a Python script to convert a Twitter archive to markdown or other formats: github.com/timhutton/twitter-a

Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

I am very pleased to see @georgetakei is having a good time here. After the nonsense that went down with wil wheaton its really nice to see him welcomed.

Honest question... how did it go from "masks don't work, they let particles through" to "masks worked TOO well, they didn't let anything through and now RSV and Flu are spiking from #immunitydebt" ?

Not deactivating my account so I can be involved in the class action lawsuit when all of our data gets leaked.

Changing a habit is hard but it can be done. This morning was the first time since fleeing Mad Bird that I opened here first before looking at the other one.

This is a great idea. Thank you for doing this. Added my name to the list.

Please keep an eye out for zeroes.ca accounts (especially new ones) violating our community rules regarding COVID info, etc: zeroes.ca/about

Awareness of this community is growing, even amongst deniers, and there are more and more names I don't recognize.

Report liberally. 🕵️‍♂️
Block always. ⛔
