The IRS has quietly built its own prototype system to allow Americans to file tax returns digitally and free of charge, according to three current and former agency officials, essentially creating government software that could disrupt the industry.

The next medical show should show doctors in hospitals telling women they have to wait until they are almost dead to treat them for pregnancy related issues.

I'm working on decolonizing the citations in my articles and talks and finally figured out that SciELO has an AMAZING database of articles from the Global South!
You can search scielo.org/ just like you would Google Scholar

The stigma around remote work is coming from the top—CEOs who are likely high-earning, older white men with stay-at-home wives. Instead of creating supportive workplaces, they are telling moms that flexibility is not compatible with advancement.

Wonder what happens when a white supremacist dictator type isn't restrained after a coup attempt.🙄

I already argued with fools leading up to 2016. I'm done with that.

1. Kansas recently enacted a "Women's Bill of Rights"

The new law is part of a well-financed and systematic campaign to establish anti-trans policies nationwide

It is being coordinated by a secretive group that has opposed policies to protect and expand women's rights

I have never thought about it this way! I have only considered the fact that students with different kinds of disabilities do not get accepted as much into schools or programs, especially in high school where there is much competition.

@ZingerLearns @edutooters Interesting—I am one of the 5%. I have noticed a significant attitude difference between myself when addressing my students with disabilities (a SPED teacher), and that of my classmates. I expect my students to have good lives and to support independence and self-advocacy; my classmates expect “inspiration.” #Disability #Education #DisabilityRights #SelfAdvocacy #WeAreNotYourInspiration #DisabilityIndependence #DisabilityJustice #edutooter

@ZingerLearns @edutooters probably at least 2 different processes in that difference: (1) disabled learners select out of teaching as a possible career and (2) those who don't select out feel pressure to pass and conform, so they don't document/share their disabilities. It's much riskier to out yourself to a potential employer than to a school, even if both are required in principle to treat you fairly.

I hope y'all are understanding that CNN is right wing cosplaying as center now. There's way more important things to report on than that man — I haven't watched it (I don't dignify my time with State propaganda anymore) and I'm hoping y'all stop investing in outlets that do not give a fuck about y'all too. I think a major failing of and tension in teacher preparation programs in the US is that we expect and demand that aspiring teachers meet the need of individual students, especially those with disabilities and whose first language isn't English. Yet we as a teacher preparation community push these same students out disproportionately.
For example, about 16-17% of students in schools have a documented disability, but fewer than 5% of teachers have a documented disability.

Anyone experience in being an independent scholar with a PhD?

Seriously thinking of changing paths after completing the PhD so any experiences and advice appreciated!

There's been a lot of talk today about Henry Kissinger's upcoming 100th birthday, but I've yet to see Anthony Bourdain's quote about that war criminal scroll by, and it can't be shared enough.

This conservative defense of "politeness" based on fear of being shot plays out in similar fashion in families where traditional punitive discipline frightens kids into docility. Those who value compliance above all - and who focus only on surface behavior - actually think this arrangement "works."

Just how absurd is the concept of a monarchy when you really really think about it?
