@twizzay Are the in-laws paying for this?
If not, order an english menu, maybe they kick you out for that.

@admitsWrongIfProven Yeah. Thankfully we aren't paying for anything. But, it doesnt remove the awkwardness of what's an appropriate middle-ground plate.

If I order something too cheap, I come off overly conscientious of money. If I order something too expensive, then I'm taking them for granted.

It's an art that I despise.

@twizzay I'm thinking "compensation for personal suffering" here.
After all, you didn't ask to go - ordering what looks best to you (not most expensive, that would be childish) is what i would call fair. They want to treat you? Let them do it the one way it might actually be enjoyable there. It's not like you'd get hooked on didney fancyfood and crave to visit again, is it?

@admitsWrongIfProven I guess I just worry that it's going to be held over my head at some point. That has happened before.

Money is no object until they are offended.

@twizzay Well, if they want to hold something against you, they can also ignore you didn't want to go to didney, right? So if you're lost already, why not sample the witch's house?
