I've never heard anyone define "pornography" that way. I'm guessing the journalists were being a bit loose with their interpretation of the source material. The linked page doesn't contain the words "pornography" or "transgender" but seems to link to some book you can buy, so can't easily verify the claim. It would be an incredibly stupid way to define "pornography."
A good definition can be found in the Civil Rights Ordinance written by Catharine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin. I wish they'd have succeeded in getting that law passed back then.
