Hmm, i had automatically assumed only people in power actively denying a genocide could be meant to be adressed, since it would be impossible to ascertain the general populaces involvement / support.
Deadnaming of people is not ok, that much is clear.
I have, so far, decided that companies are not people, thus deadnaming companies is fine (it's twitter, they don't get to claim the x). So far so good?
Now this would be a new case - if a politician denies a genocide, can they (specifically, not the populace) claim names only possible because of said genocide?
@admitsWrongIfProven @mayintoronto I mean it depends on what actual Turks think, I started doing this *years* ago. The idea was that when I got corrected I'd say "I'll acknowledge that when they acknowledge the Armenian genocide" and that would raise awareness.
But I've thought about it just now and maybe that's a clever play to someone who doesn't know about the genocide but I'd be an ass to refuse to respect an actual Turk's wish, especially if they don't agree with their govt's denial of it.

Sounds to me that some people might just have thought you were a history nerd trying to throw knowledge of past names around?
Funny thing is if you called germany by previous names, it would make you sound like a nazi, they loved invoking the past ^^
