Hmm, i had automatically assumed only people in power actively denying a genocide could be meant to be adressed, since it would be impossible to ascertain the general populaces involvement / support.
Deadnaming of people is not ok, that much is clear.
I have, so far, decided that companies are not people, thus deadnaming companies is fine (it's twitter, they don't get to claim the x). So far so good?
Now this would be a new case - if a politician denies a genocide, can they (specifically, not the populace) claim names only possible because of said genocide?

Sounds to me that some people might just have thought you were a history nerd trying to throw knowledge of past names around?
Funny thing is if you called germany by previous names, it would make you sound like a nazi, they loved invoking the past ^^
