Trump is too obvious a fascist, people still don't take him seriously as a fascist. Hiding in plain sight is a strategy. Trump will come close to establishing a personal dictatorship in USA, and will probably try to come back after his second term through a coup to be declared führer for life. My only question at this point whether US army and liberal wing of the state will do a preventative coup at a point. Because they can, and while it never happened historically, one of the distinctions between continental europe and USA/UK is that liberalism is entrenched in state apparatus in the anglophone world. This is not a necessarily good or necessarily left-of-fascism thing. Andrew Jackson committed genocide, he also instated suffrage. He is a model liberal colonialist. So was Biden. Trump fancies himself a new Jackson, he put his painting on a sweet spot at white house during the first term He fancies himself a populist tyrant. But he is not popular, he barely makes it every time. And he fucks with constitution. If Maga fascists threaten the constitutional regime in a way that will help their base stay in power, US army and bureaucrats might as well coup them. US army is also largely a fascist organisation, but they are loyal to the colonial imperialist project, and Trump threatens to break it up into something more granular. Fun part is, this hypothetical coup would not take back anything Trump did, but it would probably end the fascist creep and establish a new equilibrium. In any case, it will be a three way fight against both arms of the state until then.

@livinghell Are you sure about the "take seriously" part right at the beginning?

People do not decide to act purely by "is this something i should care about", there is a lot of "can i affect this?". I think the commonly established supremacy of states is the problem, not the perception of people in general.

@admitsWrongIfProven that's true as well. But i think a lot more americans should do opsec etc. in their daily lives at this point.

@livinghell We are living in a world that had no security for common people as a default for so long, with powerful people getting bullshit security, i don't think security can be an important factor.

Self efficacy for not having to fawn to the fascists might be a better goal?

@admitsWrongIfProven Yeah, but your local cops are always relatively predictable. You don't need to go full off the grid in order to be harder to find. Public protests with visible faces is bad practice, for example.

@livinghell You can't expect most people to follow good practices. And i am pretty sure you don't want to mandate things...

As hopeless as things are, blaming the masses will never be right. Think how to enable, not how to blame.
