Some people are more committed to politicising your trauma than they are committed to supporting you through it.

Going deeper, some people think politicising your trauma IS supporting you.

That’s a mistake on their part and while it’s not right, it will be okay. We still have to work through the trauma we didn’t ask for. We do not have to keep certain people around when they become a distraction from what it is you need to do for yourself.

Another brutal lesson I learned this year: catharsis is not healing.

It makes me feel better to talk about what ails or bothers me but it doesn’t necessarily address the ailment. It’s like when a surgeon preparing for surgery: important and crucial prerequisite but it is not the procedure itself.
