Rosalind Franklin’s research was crucial to discovering DNA’s double helix structure 🧬 but it was James Watson & Francis Crick who received the credit & Nobel Prize.
Unknown to Franklin, the pair saw her unpublished data & X-ray diffraction images, inspiring their famous model. They never acknowledged her contribution until after her death.
How many discoveries & innovations of #women do we attribute to the men who took credit for their ideas?

Might as well start with this: Is this archaic Greek vase the inspiration for the legendary Leg Lamp? #AChristmasStory #Christmas #classicalarchaeology #ceramics
If you like LEGO games, then this bundle over at Humble is a pretty good deal!
https://www.humblebundle.com/games/lego-at-movies-holiday-encore
For 10 euro you can get 9 LEGO games. Usually I see deals of 2 LEGO games for 10 euro, so this bundle is pretty sweet.
My favorite is probably Jurassic World, fun map and gameplay. And you get to play with dinosaurs!
Next up might be LEGO Movie, just so absurd that it's endearing. Though I disliked LEGO Movie 2, that was just absurd without the endearing part. :P

It feels so strange to put something as small as a haiku on a page like this!
Oh, wow, Tom Lehrer has released all of his songs into the public domain. Apparently also his website will shut down "at some date in the not too distant future" so now's a good time to download directly.
"In short, I no longer retain any rights to any of my songs.
So help yourselves, and don’t send me any money."
It has no name,
this unfamiliar feeling,
glimmering prismatic
like oil on a street puddle,
overlooked by polished shoes
uncaring as they pass by
life's understated beauties.
It has no name,
this unfamiliar feeling,
but I would capture it if I could,
in an old glass bottle
on a shelf of tattered novels
where whimsical characters roam,
immortal in ink and dreams.
Some faraway frost-tinted day,
I would like to feel it again.

I am so underwater. I have too much in my feed, but I want it all it's so wonderful. I may have to walk away for awhile. I'm so #confused about what to do!⁉️
Quite a nicely done interactive piece about how AI text-to-image systems such as stable diffusion or Dall-E work.

Today I have been having the most brilliant time snuggled up by the fire, researching the archaeology of the Natron area of the Eastern Rift Valley, Tanzania. I'm tasked with producing some educational materials and it's making me happy.
(Ex archaeologist here 🙋♀️, seems I never grew out of it after all)
Congrats to the SWOT team! 💫 🌎

December 16, 1707, the last historic eruption of Mount Fuji in #Japan starts. Ash fallout was reported in Edo (modern Tokyo). The flank eruption triggered mudflows, damaging houses & burying agricultural land 🌋
